Malaysia has decided to close schools to reduce coronavirus

The Malaysian Ministry of Education announced the closure of schools of all levels and types from Monday until the end of the semester this year, to reduce the rise in infections with the new coronavirus.

"Schools in the states of Group A (Qdah-Johor- Kilantan-Terengano) will be closed until December 18th for Group B," Education Minister Mohamed Radhi Jedin said in a statement on Sunday, according to the national news agency Bernama.
"This decision follows the continued imposition of a conditional restriction of movement from tomorrow until December 6th in all the Malaysian peninsula except the states of Kelantan, Bhang and Perlis, to contain the spread of the virus and break the chain of infections."

The Minister of Education explained that the educational calendar in Malaysia begins on January 20, 2021, so that education during the closure period will remain on the system of distance or from home education, according to the necessities of the teacher and the student," he said, noting that attendance at schools is mandatory only on January 20 and March 8, 2021 for some schools

He said the decision is affecting public and private schools registered for the Ministry of Education, while encouraging unregistered schools to abide by the same decision.
Since early October, Malaysia has been experiencing a new wave of CORONA virus infections, prompting authorities to reimpose conditional restrictions and tighten restrictions to curb high rates of HIV infection
